News & Events
We have had a number of enquiries regarding the residential courses which we intend to hold at the Haveli. These will initially take place when interested parties of up to six people can be co-ordinated, and we would be interested to hear from anyone we may wish to attend, either as a single person or as a group.
Over the coming months we will be taking advantage of the skills of highly experienced local craftsmen and teachers, who will give personal tuition in a variety of fields, including:
- Silver-working
- Leather-working
- Indian culinary arts
- Stone carving
- Indian astrology and mysticism
- Painting and drawing
- Textiles (block-printing, weaving, visiting local museums and collections, etc.)
- Ayurvedic medicine
The Hevali will also act as a living gallery for early Indian objet d'art and contemporary art by modern artists.
Printing workshops
We are privileged to have these workshops led by Shankar Lal Bidla, the current head of the Bidla family. This family has been block-printing in an unbroken tradition for over two hundred years. Workshops will be based in Jodhpur, but will include a trip to Bidla printers in Bagru, just outside of Jaipur, to see the full process of dying and washing, then on to look at the textiles in the Royal Palace of Jaipur.
Please see gallery for views of Bidla printers at work.
